About the Event

Adventurer, pilot, diver and photographer Peter Stern presents his land, aerial and undersea photographs from his recent visits to Cuba. This exhibition features images of the people, architecture, nature and the coral reef gardens of this island of great and unique beauty.

Cuba has suffered from economic hardship and slow decline since the collapse if its main supporter, the Soviet Union. Government reforms and the lifting of travel restrictions increased and facilitated tourism to the island. But that tourism suffered greatly from covid, and tourism is still far short of per-pandemic levels.

Despite the hardships, Cubans continue to persevere with great resourcefulness andingenuity. And Cubans are the kindest people one will ever find in their travels. The city of Havana, one of the most beautiful in all the world, is slowly crumbling from the effects of weather and the lack of funds for repairs. Yet every block holds incredible beauty.

There is a timeless feeling to Cuba. Cuban fishermen still ply the seas in wooden rowboats, many using only hand lines to catch their fish. An incredible assortment of early American and East European automobiles can be seen on the roads. And Cuba holds some of the most extensive and pristine jungle and coral reef ecosystems in the Western Hemisphere. For a photographer, Cuba is a visual paradise And in his five recent visits there, Stern has sought to

reveal that beauty through his photographs.

Exhibit runs from Saturday, March 9- Friday April 12th
