About the Event

About Aikido: Aikido is a defensive martial art originated in Japan in the late 1960s. It is an art characterized by flowing, circular movements and large rolls and falls; partner practice; and internal (self-focused) as well as external (physical) learning. The founder, Morihei Ueshiba, was a long-time student of Jiu Jutsu and Judo, so Aikido utilizes some basic concepts from these styles, but Aikido focused on blending rather than countering the attacker's energy. As such, Aikido is a place many martial artists find gentler to the body, long-term. All classes open to everyone. Approx. 8 classes per month.

Monthly Fee: $80/adult, $40/full-time student/military rate.

Registration: Contact the dojo cho at 443.756.8851.

About the Venue: The Clubhouse is a 100-seat, intimate performance space located in the heart of the Catonsville Arts District. Recently acquired, it is owned and operated by the Baltimore County Arts Guild and serves as a center of the arts in Baltimore County. Additional classrooms provide space for classes and workshops.

This program is made possible in part by the Citzens of Baltimore County, the Catonsville Arts District, Baltimore County Arts Guild, and the Maryland State Arts Council
