Anthropologist Linda Rabben Releases the First Illustrated Book about Baltimore Stained Glass
Through A Glass Darkly: The Social History of Stained Glass in Baltimore." The event will explore the evolution of stained glass in Baltimore, its cultural and social significance, and its connection to the city's history of racial, ethnic, and religious segregation. Rabben will discuss her research, the artisans behind the craft, and the future of stained-glass making in the city, offering a deep dive into Baltimore's architectural and artistic heritage.
It’s a unique opportunity to engage with Rabben's insights and learn more about Baltimore's stained-glass legacy.
About the Author
Since 2015, Linda Rabben has been an associate research professor of anthropology at the University of Maryland. In addition to writing and publishing poems for more than 50 years, she has published Sanctuary and Asylum: A Social and Political History, My Brazil: Reports from the Interior, Journeywoman: A Writer’s Story, and other non-fiction books and articles on human rights and related subjects. Through a Glass Darkly is her 11th nonfiction book.
Passionate about creating new opportunities for the traditional craft and the next generation of stained-glass makers, she will continue her project in 2024, by promoting the formation of a professional stained-glass training and apprenticeship program in Baltimore.
About the Venue: The Clubhouse is a 100-seat, intimate performance space located in the heart of the Catonsville Arts District. Recently acquired, it is owned and operated by the Baltimore County Arts Guild and serves as a center of the arts in Baltimore County. Additional classrooms provide space for classes and workshops.
