Artist Statement: Arrival

Art is my visual diary. In this story, I hope others can understand how society can kill the light inside of  LGBTQIA+  people and the strength it takes to find that joy again. What once were waterfalls of depression and thorns of trauma turn into worlds of paradise with jewels of wisdom learned along the way. The subject transforms from an anonymous silhouette to a flamboyant alien as he realizes who he is, embraces what makes him different, and saves himself. Symbols like microphones for finally finding his voice and yin and yangs for the peace in knowing who he is appear as the alien becomes enlightened. With a firm grasp of the staff, he is…
